The issue of delay in compensation to the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri violence raised in the Rajya Sabha

New Delhi. In the Rajya Sabha on Friday, the issue of delay in fulfillment of the Uttar Pradesh government’s assurance of providing government jobs to the kin of the deceased and compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the injured farmers in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case was raised. Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Jayant Chowdhary raised the matter in the Upper House during Zero Hour.

During the Zero Hour, members of various parties raised several issues including the alleged rising incidents of crime in Bihar, efforts to curb the rising incidents of fire incidents across the country and the problems faced by pilgrims visiting Kartarpur.

Raising the issue of non-receipt of compensation to the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri violence even after one year, Jayant Chowdhary demanded the Central Government to take appropriate steps in this direction.

He said that on December 1, 2021, the Lakhimpur massacre shook the farmers of the country, which was discussed in the whole country. He said that after the incident, the Uttar Pradesh government had assured a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the injured and a government job to one of the kin of the four deceased farmers.

He said, “It has been a year, but so far no action has been taken in this direction. Demanding to take appropriate steps in this direction, Choudhary raised the question that if the government does not fulfill its promises, then why should the public trust it? Raghav Chadha of Aam Aadmi Party raised the issue of pilgrims going to Kartarpur and sought removal of the requirement of passport and payment of $20 as fee.

He also demanded to simplify the process of registration of devotees. He urged the Central Government to talk to the Government of Pakistan regarding these demands and take necessary steps. Ashok Vajpayee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed concern over loss of life and property due to collision of vehicles, large buildings and factories and requested the government to take appropriate steps to curb them.

He said that not only lives are lost in such incidents, but property worth billions of rupees is also damaged. BJP’s Satish Chandra Dubey raised the issue of law and order in Bihar and claimed that there is an atmosphere of fear among the public due to incidents of crime happening in the state.

Referring to the failures of the Bihar government in this direction, he claimed that Jungle Raj has returned to the state. During this, some members of Janata Dal (U) and Rashtriya Janata Dal opposed him.

Trinamool Congress’s Nadimul Haque referred to the amount deposited in various banks on which no one’s claim has come forward after the death of the customers.

He said that if there is any claimant, then the government should improve the procedures and make arrangements to return the amount of its share. He said that in cases where there is no claimant, that amount can be used for various welfare schemes of the government.

BJP’s GVL Narasimha Rao raised the issue of developing Visakhapatnam as a major center of information and technology. He said that Visakhapatnam has full potential to emerge as a major IT hub of the country and efforts should be made by the Central and State Government in this direction.

He also raised the issue of expansion of Software Technology Park in Visakhapatnam and said that the project was stuck due to land acquisition. Mohammad Abdullah of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam demanded setting up of a center of Indian Institute of Science Education Research in Puducherry.

Nationalist Congress’s Vandana Chavan referred to the natural phenomena happening due to climate change and said that due to this, a large number of lives and property are lost every year. He urged the government to take the matter seriously and take necessary steps.
