Starring child artiste Nitanshi Goel and actors like Ekavali Khanna, Shishir Sharma, Shashi Verma among others, ‘Innocent Question’ is based on periods and the illusions associated with it. The film is directed and written by Santosh Upadhyay and produced by Ranjana Upadhyay of Nakshatra 27 Productions. This which will release in cinemas on 5th August.
Talking about what inspired her to be a part of this film, actress Ekavali Khanna shared, “When I got the story from our director, the first thing I noticed was a very unusual concept. Despite being a unique story, it is because I personally come from a very developed family where there is no taboo around menstrual cycles, but I have noticed that there is a large part of India where menstruation is so irrelevant and Such a big deal with unwanted rules.
“Women are treated like an outcast and I personally feel disappointed by it. I thought it would start for many women in India. If a film is being made to break a taboo and move forward for change, I would love to be a part of it.”
Elaborating on how the whole concept unfolded, director Santosh Upadhyay said, “In 2014, a girl who was in class VIII came up to me and expressed her desire to talk to me alone, away from her parents. Of. Then he asked me, “Sir! Why do girls get periods?” To be honest, I had no answer for that innocent. So I asked her why she was asking like this.
“After that, I wrote this film about the story he told about his house. Even today in a metro city like Delhi a 14 year old girl is crying on such a common topic, it is the misfortune of the country to create confusion about menstruation. Inspired by this, I gathered the courage to make this film. Somewhere a spark was lit and I started with that.” Producer Ranjana Upadhyay said, “It is a film that asks a very big question to the entire society.”
Producer Ranjana Upadhyay adds, “It is a film that asks a very big question from the entire society. It is the story of a 14 year old girl, who confronts her innocent question and fights with her family. How does she fight, what is that innocent big question and what happens next is this film. All our actors are brilliant and experienced. The theme of this film is that everyone has put their whole life into it.”
