States that have given relief to the public from costly petrol and diesel by reducing VAT rate include Punjab, Karnataka, Puducherry, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam, Sikkim, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, North Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Meghalaya and Ladakh are included.

However, there are some states in this country which have decided not to give exemption to the public and have not reduced VAT till now. They include Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu. These include AAP-ruled Delhi, Trinamool Congress-ruled West Bengal, Left-party-ruled Kerala, TRS-ruled Telangana and YSR Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh.
