Team India is unable to progress in ICC tournament? Naseer Hussain told the reason

Naseer Hussain on Team India: Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes that India does not play freely in International Cricket Council (ICC) competitions and lack of alternate planning and selection issues were the main reasons for the team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup. India had to bear the brunt of losing the first two matches to Pakistan and New Zealand and the team could not reach the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup in UAE.

Hussain told ‘T20worldcup.com’, ‘You have to express yourself by getting on the field. They (India) have no dearth of talent. This could be the only thing that doesn’t stop India from progressing in ICC events. He said, ‘The way India should play cricket freely, they do not play cricket because they are very talented.’

India had lost to Pakistan by 10 wickets in their opening match. They lost the next match to New Zealand by eight wickets. New Zealand’s win over Afghanistan on Sunday left India out of the race for the semi-finals. Hussain said, ‘I considered him a strong contender for the title. He played IPL here and there are many star players in his team. He suffered a setback in the first match itself. The way Shaheen Afridi bowled in the powerplay. The two balls on which Rohit (Sharma) and (KL) Rahul got out, many great batsmen could have been out on them.

Nasir Hussain said this about Pandya

He said, ‘Sometimes there is such a problem with the Indian team. They have so many good batsmen in their top order that their middle order doesn’t get too many chances and suddenly you need an alternate plan which is not there. Hussain said that playing Hardik Pandya only as a batsman affected the balance of the team.

He said, ‘I consider India a very talented team but sometimes in terms of selection, playing a player like Hardik Pandya as just a batsman changes the balance of the team. It was not the right decision to not open the innings from Rohit and Rahul against New Zealand. Hussain said, ‘I never separate Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. He is a world class player. Against New Zealand, young Ishan Kishan was sent to open the innings with Rahul while Rohit came to bat at number three.
