India vs South Africa Johannesburg Test 1st Day Stumps: Under the leadership of Marco Jensen, the fast bowlers once again exposed the weakness of the Indian batsmen against the bouncing balls, bundled out Team India’s first innings for 202 runs, after which South Africa scored 35 runs for one wicket. . Jensen took four for 31 while fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada (3 for 64) and Duane Olivier (3 for 64) supported him well.

Before the end of the day’s play, South Africa lost the wicket of Aidan Markram (07) who was dismissed leg before by Mohammed Shami (1 for 15). At stumps, Keegan Pietersen and captain Dean Elgar were both taking advantage of the life and scoring 14 and 11 runs respectively. South Africa’s team is still behind India by 167 runs.

Caretaker captain Lokesh Rahul (50 runs in 133 balls, nine fours) and Ravichandran Ashwin (46 off 50 balls, six fours), who were making their Test debut as Test captain for India, were able to bat only. Opener Mayank Agarwal (26) looked in tune but failed to convert a good start into a big innings.

India once again had to bear the brunt of the failure of the middle order. Cheteshwar Pujara (3 runs in 33 balls) and Ajinkya Rahane (00) continued to fail. After almost a year, Hanuma Vihari (20), playing Test cricket, also returned to the pavilion after getting a foothold at the crease.

South Africa’s start was also not good and Shami made Markram leg before in the fourth over itself. Elgar had earlier been lucky in Jasprit Bumrah’s over when the fast bowler failed to take his catch on his own ball. Pietersen was also lucky on his personal score of 12 runs when wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant dropped his catch. This time too the unfortunate bowler was Bumrah.

In the final moments of the day’s play, fast bowler Mohammad Siraj suffered a sprain in his leg and had to leave the field. India will have to pray that his injury doesn’t get too serious and he can bowl tomorrow. India did not have a good start to the match when regular skipper Virat Kohli was ruled out of the match due to a tightness in his upper back.

Rahul decided to bat first in difficult conditions and along with Agarwal kept the hosts’ bowlers from success in the first hour. Agarwal looked in good rhythm and hit five fours. However, he was caught by wicketkeeper Kyle Verne in an attempt to drive off Jensen’s off-side moving ball.

Olivier, who had given up hope of playing for England, played the first Test for South Africa after three years, dismissing Pujara and Rahane in successive balls, till lunch, India’s score was 53 for three. Pujara was once again struggling to score runs. He looked uncomfortable against bouncing balls and was eventually dismissed on a similar delivery by Olivier.

Rahane tried to tamper with the very first ball outside the off-stump by Olivier and became the fast bowler’s 50th victim in the 11th Test. Keegan Pietersen took his easy catch at slips. Rahul and Vihari then took the innings forward. Vihari made a positive start after lunch with a four off Lungi Ngidi. Although he was lucky in the same fast bowler’s over when the ball was played in the air, but Temba Bavuma, standing on point, dropped an easy catch.

Vihari and Rahul played some attractive shots in the meantime. Elgar made Rabada return to the bowling and his bouncing ball gave another success to the hosts. The ball jumped into the air with the inner edge of Vihari’s bat and Resie van der Dusen, standing at short leg, took a brilliant catch. Rahul also looked uncomfortable on a few occasions against the short balls. He completed his 13th half-century in 128 balls with fours on Rabada and then a run on Ngidi.

Soon after completing his half-century, Rahul caught Rabada on the boundary while trying to pull the outside delivery off Jensen’s off-side. Pant (17) and Ashwin did not let India get any further setbacks till tea. Ashwin started off with two fours on Ngidi and then saw Jensen and Keshav Maharaj also see the ball for the boundary.

After tea break, Pant caught the wicketkeeper off Jensen’s delivery while Shardul Thakur caught Pietersen at slip off Olivier in the next over without opening the account. Ashwin took the ball of Rabada and Olivier to the boundary but Shami (09) caught Rabada on his own delivery. In the next over, Ashwin was also caught by Pietersen by waving Jensen’s ball in the air. Bumrah (14 not out) took the team’s score past 200 runs in Rabada’s over with two fours and sixes, but this fast bowler ended the Indian innings by getting Mohammad Siraj (01) caught by the wicketkeeper in his next over.
