Brain Pacemaker: Brain’s pacemaker will save from depression, know about this technique here. 1 News Track English

Brain Pacemaker: Depression means depression has become a very widespread disease all over the world. There are a large number of people suffering from depression in India itself. Medical science has made a lot of progress in the treatment of depression. But still there is no very strong cure for severe depression. Now a new technique has been invented, which is called Deep Brain Stimulation. In this technique, the patient’s brain is depressurized through electrodes. According to the World Health Organization, 300 million people in the world are affected by the problem of depression. With timely help, support and treatment, some people have been able to overcome suicidal tendencies. Not everyone is so lucky. 20 to 30 percent of people get no relief from the usual treatments.

This is how depression will go away

An experimental study on depression was done in 2020. In this, a California patient Sarah was the first to attend. At that time she was suffering from severe depression. The electric shock was ineffective. However, a team of scientists at the University of California, San Francisco, implanted a device the size of a cigarette box in his skull. This device identifies Sarah’s emerging symptoms of depression. Gives its response by creating an electric charge in the brain. In this way the brain gets the power to take out the thoughts of depression. It is like a pacemaker for the brain.

Sarah told CNN about this device that it turned her thoughts very positive. Whereas in the depths of her depression, Sara had only seen the bad around her till now. According to MIT Technology Review, within twelve days after the brain device was installed, Sarah’s depression score had dropped from 36 to 14 on the 54-point Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale. According to the researchers, after a few months, he dropped below 10, which was a sign that his depression was on the slopes.

Depression treatment

The way this device treats depression is called deep brain stimulation. In this, electric currents are continuously sent to a part of the brain. For the past thirty years, it is also being used in diseases like Parkinson’s, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Epilepsy. About 20 years ago, researchers began testing it as a treatment for severe depression. But there was limited success in clinical trials. Two US trials had to be stopped midway. One of the major challenges associated with this treatment is that it can involve different parts of each person’s brain. In addition, inserting electrodes into the patient’s brain can cause bleeding and, in severe cases, death.
