The captain of the Indian team in the Ashtam Oraon World Cup Under-17 Football

Ranchi. Ashtam Oraon, daughter of working parents, will captain the Indian team in the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 to be held in Bhubaneswar, Margao (Goa) and Navi Mumbai from October 11. Ashtam is a resident of Banari Goratoli, a small village under Gumla district of Jharkhand.

Six players from Jharkhand, including Ashtam Oraon, have got a place in India’s 21-man squad announced on Wednesday for the World Cup. These include Neetu Linda, Anjali Munda, Anita Kumari, Poornima Kumari and Sudha Ankita Tirkey. This is the first time that six girls from Jharkhand have been selected together in the Indian team of Under-17 women’s football.

Jharkhand Football Association President and Jharkhand Government Minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur said that it has been our dream that more than half the players in women’s football should be from Jharkhand. This dream is now close to the destination. It is a matter of pride and happiness for us that six daughters of our soil will play together in the World Cup.

When the news of Ashtam Oraon being made the captain of the Indian team reached his village Banari Goratoli late on Wednesday evening, the people of the village jumped with joy.
