Congress Presidential election: Voting will be held tomorrow, counting of votes on October 19, after 22 years a non-Gandhi will become party president

The last president election in Congress was held in 2000 in which Sonia Gandhi defeated Jitendra Prasad by a huge margin.

At this time, there is a lot of excitement in the Congress camp regarding the election of the President. The election of the new Congress President is due tomorrow and both the candidates are busy wooing the party delegates. Congress Central Election Authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry announced the entire election schedule. He said that the voting will start from 10 am and will go on till 4 pm. All state representatives will vote against the preferred candidate in their respective polling stations. Arrangements have been made to ensure that there is no obstruction in voting. Madhusudan Mistry said that the ballot boxes will reach Delhi on October 18 and counting of votes will be done on October 19. Polling stations have also been set up in AICC where 50 people can vote. With this, elections are going to be held in the party for the post of president after 22 years and the party will get a president from outside the Gandhi family. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the workers regarding this matter. However, none of the candidates got support from the Gandhi family.

Both the leaders are constantly talking to the media

In view of the elections, now both the candidates of the elections Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge are meeting many party leaders for the last time before the elections. Along with this, both the leaders have issued manifestos at their level. Many promises have been made in the manifesto of both.

Rahul will vote in Bellary, Karnataka while Sonia Gandhi will vote in Delhi

For Congress President, Rahul Gandhi will vote in Bellary, Karnataka, while Sonia Gandhi will vote in Delhi. Mistry said that a polling booth has been arranged for Rahul Gandhi. Apart from Sonia, Manmohan will also vote.

The last president election in Congress was held in 2000 in which Sonia Gandhi defeated Jitendra Prasad by a huge margin. Prior to this, he took charge of the party in 1998. The last non-Gandhi president of the Congress was in 1996, when Sitaram Kesri was elected to the party’s top post by defeating Sharad Pawar and Rajesh Pilot. In the same sequence, on 17 October 2022, over 9000 PCC representatives will elect the next non-Gandhi president from amongst Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor.

Both the candidates released their respective manifesto

According to a report, Kharge has made many big announcements along with seeking support in the past. Talking to the workers, Kharge made it clear that if he becomes the president, then in the coming days, 50 percent posts in the party will be given to people below 50 years of age. Apart from this, he talked about giving respect to the old workers and bringing youth power in the party. While talking about his manifesto, Tharoor had said that ‘Today our party needs a change and I think I am going to bring that change. There are many challenges before us, but we have to face them firmly. For this we have to make many changes in the party. In today’s time the party needs a full time president. A president to whom the voice of every worker can reach. We need new energy.
