BCCI ‘offer’ to ECB to play one Test match or two T20 matches next year, know the whole matter

BCCI Statement: After the cancellation of the fifth test match between India and England, there is a continuous round of discussions. All the greats of England have expressed their displeasure over this. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in talks with the England Board regarding this matter. The BCCI has confirmed that it has offered to play two additional T20 matches to make up for the loss suffered by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) during the Indian team’s tour of England in July 2022. Recently, the Manchester Test was canceled due to the threat of Kovid-19.

What did BCCI secretary Jay Shah say?
BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the offer of two additional T20 Internationals will remain in place if the ECB agrees to amicably resolve the impasse over the fifth Test. Shah told cricket website ‘Cricbuzz’, “It is true that when we tour England next July, we have offered to play two extra T20s. Instead of three T20 matches, we will play five T20 matches. Alternately We would be willing to play one-off Test as well. It’s up to them to choose one of these offers.”

The ball is in ECB’s court
The BCCI has left it to the ECB to choose one Test match or two T20 matches, which can be played during the tour of England next year. If the ECB chooses to play a Test, it will be the fifth match of a series, just like the one that was cancelled, and not a standalone game. So far the ECB has not taken any decision regarding this.

Former England cricketer said – ‘India did not respect Test cricket’
Former England cricketer Paul Newman has targeted the Indian cricketer, BCCI and IPL for the cancellation of the fifth Test match to be held in Manchester due to the Corona case coming to the fore in the Indian camp. Newman said that India did not respect this series and they did not respect Test cricket by violating the guidelines of Kovid before the fourth Test. He said in a column, “If most of India’s players Amir had not been going to Dubai for the start of the tournament, then the game on the first day would not have been canceled in the morning.”

Newman said, “Any Indian player who has an IPL contract does not take the risk of playing Tests so that if he was found positive, he would have to stay in England for 10 more days and he would miss the IPL starting 19 September.” He also blamed the book launch program of Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri ahead of the fourth Test in London.
