Population Density and Epidemics

The pandemic has shattered the mutuality of people.

Jaiprakash Tripathi

For the time being, in our country with a population of one hundred and forty two crores, the conditions to escape the outbreak of corona from a safe distance did not look favorable. The population density of the country today is about four hundred and sixty four persons per square kilometer. That is, it is impossible for every person to live by maintaining a distance of two yards in two thousand one hundred and fifty-five square meters.

A new form of corona virus, Omicron, also has a new form ‘Stealth Omicron’ i.e. BA-2 has also arrived in the country. The speed of its infection is said to be faster than the original Omicron. In such a situation, a question is churning everyone that how many layers of this fear are there. At present, Denmark has got the highest infection of Stealth Omicron including forty countries of the world. More than five hundred samples have also been sent from India for GISAID (Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data) testing. After the third wave of corona in the country became frightening, some moderation in its spread is being said, yet on an average more than 2.5 lakh people are falling prey to it every day and on an average more than five hundred people are dying every day. Huh.

The pandemic has shattered the mutuality of people. All kinds of festive activities have been paralyzed. Yes, seeing the hustle and bustle of the crowd at the buzzing markets, transport centers, it does not seem that the precautions taken during the Corona period have had any significant effect on the general public to save the economy from going out.

In such a situation, the slowness of the Corona warriors is also noteworthy. This is a matter of serious concern. In such a situation, amidst the concerns of population density, a distance of two yards of compulsions and precautions, a famine of medical measures! On the one hand, in spite of lakhs of warnings, without masks, sanitizers, two yards (safe distance) between population density and slow pace of covid investigation like first-second wave is raising many serious questions in today’s extremely worrying situation.

The population density, which has kept the country in the quagmire of unemployment, crime, poverty, starvation for a long time, has now pushed into the incurable maze of Corona-Omicran. As far as curbing population density is concerned, that too is like a daydream.

At a glance, the practice of practicing at a safe distance seems impossible and even ridiculous. A simple subtraction shows that to maintain a distance of two yards, about fifteen square meters of land would be required. It is a simple math that out of the country’s total thirty two lakh eighty seven thousand two hundred and sixty three square kilometer land, about thirty two lakh thirty two thousand one hundred and eight square kilometer is being used for non-residential needs. In such a situation, only fifty five thousand one hundred and fifty five square kilometer land is available for the personal use of a population of one hundred and forty two crores, while the population density is about twenty five thousand seven hundred and forty five persons per square kilometer.

Another scary reality is the housing inequality of the population which takes this concern to the other end. Some have a lot of detail, while some are fascinated by even an inch. The very weakness of our disability medical services at the local level is also a big reason for corona or any other disease to become epidemic. The question of accessibility of hospitals in proportion to the population remains relevant even decades after independence.

In such situations, superfluous and dangerous technology is also employed, because the dangers of doing nothing can be much bigger. Then the population density makes sense to people like rats ramping up for self-defense. It is in such times that the biggest question arises that in view of biometric surveillance, which one should we give preference to between the all rights-rich surveillance raj and citizen empowerment. Sociologists point out that in the Corona era, centralized surveillance and severe punishment are not necessary to implement a useful guideline.

Today, along with the use of tracking applications, the need to conduct corona tests on a large scale in the country is the first priority. But one day we get a strange information in the meantime that people coming in contact with corona patients need not get tested, unless they are identified as high risk person. The question is clear whether the slow pace of corona investigation can again put us in a very serious danger like the second wave?

Another worrying thing is related to the level of consciousness of the people. People here, like from birth, are growing up after drinking a sprinkling of unscientific nature. The strictness of law and order, despite repeated precautionary warnings from day to day, on the one hand, most people will not wear masks and even those who are using them, most of the masks are visible under the nose. These are facts related to the same uncontrollable population density mindset.

Talking about it, the tendency to shirk the country-society or personal responsibilities by citing ‘the will of all’ is no less dangerous, due to which the state also has to suffer every moment during the Corona period. Is. That too was the brunt of the same level of consciousness, when there was a complete ban in the country, there was a stampede, all the people had lost their lives. We can also learn from the successful experiments of South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore in stopping the spread of corona virus, how many of our difficulties can be eased with the voluntary cooperation of conscious conscious public. The issue should be about population density, whether it is a mask, to maintain a distance of two yards, when a self-motivated population with social concerns does any work, it is more effective, and not strictly by the police.

This importance can also be understood in such a way that when scientists understood the importance of washing hands with soap properly in the nineteenth century, before that even doctors and nurses were careless about washing hands after operation, today they are crores of people. We have become aware that soap destroys the viruses and bacteria that cause diseases. Nevertheless, if we look properly at the population density, it will be known that this suicidal negligence is a major contributor to the spread of corona.

Despite all the wars and epidemics that have ruined lives, today the competition to find unscientific solutions in the rapid spread of corona has played a no less dangerous role. In the current pandemic environment, the authenticity of medical science becomes even more important. Ever since the corona era has come, reviews-articles etc. are being published and disseminated on the use of masks, while no scientifically accepted medical report has come to the fore about the effect of masks in the spread of corona. In such a situation, our contradictory and misleading policies also come under question.
