Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Wednesday claimed that Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari told him that he wanted to quit. Disagreeing with Koshyari’s recent comments about Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he also asked whether Koshyari was making such controversial statements to force the central government to remove him from Maharashtra.
Pawar was responding to a question from a journalist regarding Koshyari’s recent controversial remarks. Koshyari had described Shivaji Maharaj as the ideal of the olden times. Pawar, Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, said, Many times when I used to go to Raj Bhavan to meet Governor Koshyari, he used to say many times that he wanted to leave the state. I also asked him to convey this to his superiors so that they may look into his wish.
Referring to the remarks made about Shivaji Maharaj, he said, He (Koshiyari) should not talk like this. When a government official is posted on a post against his will, he creates some controversy so that the government has to issue an order for his transfer. Is Koshyari also trying to do something like this… I can’t say. In the past too, Koshyari’s comments on social reformer couple Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule had created a controversy.
