Rubel Hossain retires from Test cricket

Dhaka. Bangladesh fast bowler Rubel Hossain has announced his retirement from Test cricket. However, he will continue to play in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), along with other white-ball competitions.

Taking to social media, Hussain said that he felt the need to give more opportunities to the youngsters, hence he decided to retire from the longest format of the game. Hussain wrote on his Facebook account, I have officially submitted a letter to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and have decided to retire from Test cricket. He said, I think if the young fast bowlers get more chances then our team will be stronger. I have decided to retire from Test cricket to provide more opportunities to the youth in Tests.

Hussain made his Test debut in 2009 and played 27 Tests for Bangladesh in a span of 13 years. He did not play any Test match in the last two years, while the last time he appeared in a Test was in February 2020 against Pakistan. Hossain did the best in Test career by taking 5 wickets for 166 runs. During his career in Test cricket, he took 36 wickets and managed to take five wickets only once. He said that I was able to play 27 Tests for Bangladesh, which is a big achievement for me.
