Suspended IPS officer’s bail plea approved in disproportionate assets case

Bilaspur, The Chhattisgarh High Court on Thursday gave conditional approval to the bail plea of the state’s Indian Police Service IPS officer GP Singh, who was suspended and jailed for about 120 days in the case of disproportionate asset acquisition. Justice Deepak Tiwari, after hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, ordered the suspended IPS not to go out of the state and appear before the court. Earlier, the suspended IPS officer had also approached the Supreme Court regarding his case. The top court had ordered the High Court to hear the bail petition expeditiously.

During the hearing of the case, advocate Ashutosh Pandey raised questions on his arrest before the court, from registering an FIR against his client. He said that senior IPS officers of the state have been arrested after registering a case against them. He argued that before registering a case against an IPS officer under the provision, it is necessary to take permission from the central government, but it was not done in his case.
