Surat: Textile entrepreneurs are not shying away from adopting modern technology even in recession
Entrepreneurs are asking for state-of-the-art machines thinking about the coming days and for upgradation with the changing fashion
Surat’s textile industry is currently going through a period of severe recession, but with the expectation of a boom in the coming days, Surat is currently importing 800 state-of-the-art machines every month from other countries including China. However, industrialists say that imports have been affected by 35 per cent due to the closure of the Textile Upgradation Fund scheme.
According to the information received from the sources of the textile industry, the industrialists of Surat have also started producing clothes according to the changing fashion. Countries are turning to new technologies for textile production as per the demand of the people abroad. Since fabrics made on new machinery have fewer defects, and exports are easier, industrialists in Surat are importing rapiers, airjets and water machines instead of simple powerlooms. Textile industrialists say that even though there is a slowdown in the textile industry at this time, considering the prospects of business in the coming days, weavers are now turning to innovation.
Let us tell you that most of the latest machinery useful in the textile industry is being imported from China. The cost of machines varies according to their quality. The cost of Rapier machinery ranges from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 60 lakh, while the cost of waterjet and airjet ranges from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Textile industrialists say that upgradation has become imperative with the passage of time and changing fashion. Those who do not upgrade will go out of the market. Due to which they are getting state-of-the-art machines with new technology. However, with the end of the TUFF scheme, the subsidy on the purchase of machinery to weavers is coming to an end. However, some industrialists are importing machines. For those who are booking orders now, the delivery date is given after three months.
