Surat: AM/NS India launches Rs 60,000 crore expansion project in Gujarat
AM/NS India in Gujarat face A foundation stone laying ceremony was held today under the Rs 60,000 crore investment program for the expansion of the Hazira plant. On implementation of this expansion, the production capacity here will increase from 9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 15MTPA. The Hazira project comes nearly three years after AM/NS India was established, which will include upstream and downstream steel production expansion. This will create more than 60,000 employment opportunities and strengthen the nearby communities with many beneficial initiatives. Post the year 2019, AM/NS India has made strong progress in removing the bottleneck while performing well at the Hazira plant by applying global best practices of its parent companies and investing in technology and R&D. The company is now a self-sustaining, free cash flow generating business and is well positioned to provide long-term value to its employees, communities and the Indian steel industry in a rapidly growing market.
As part of this expansion programme, AM/NS India will continue to contribute to strengthen India’s steelmaking expertise and capabilities. Thereby, development of downstream facilities to produce value added steels to reduce India’s dependence on import of steels for use in sectors like defence, automotive and infrastructure etc. Apart from improving the quality and variety of its steels and increasing the volume, AM/NS India will also focus on integrating renewable energy into its energy supply chain and endeavor to lead the decarbonization of the steel industry through various initiatives. is focusing.

The state-of-the-art facilities to be set up will be as follows
• Iron making process: blast furnace, sintering facility and coke furnace
• Steel making process: basic oxygen furnaces and continuous casting machines
• Hotprocess (heating process): Hot stripmill
AM/NS India received environmental clearance for the Hazira expansion project from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in October-2022, after a detailed environmental impact assessment. The company has set a long-term ambition of increasing its national capacity to 30 MTPA in the coming decade, which supports the Government’s National Steel Policy. In which it is envisaged to double the domestic capacity to 300 MTPA by the year 2030.
