Sunil Chhetri equals legendary footballer ‘Pele’, scored 77th goal of his career against Nepal
Sunil Chettri Record: Sunil Chhetri, the captain of the Indian football team, has equaled this record of the great Brazilian football player Pele, popularly known as ‘Black Pearl’. Sunil Chhetri now has 77 international goals equal to Pele. Sunil Chhetri did this in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF Championship) Championship 2021 in the match against Nepal yesterday. 37-year-old Chhetri scored the 77th goal of his career in his 123rd international match. Brazilian legend Pele did this feat in just 92 matches. With this, Chhetri has reached the joint third place in the all-time list of most goals in international matches.
Ronaldo and Messi are ahead of Chhetri
Talking about active football players, Portugal’s star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is at the first position in the list of players who have scored the most goals in international matches. Ronaldo has 112 international goals to his name. After this, Argentina’s star footballer Lionel Messi is at the second position in this list. Messi has scored 79 goals in his international career so far.
Along with Chhetri, Ali Mabkhout of UAE is also present in the joint third place with 77 goals in this list. After yesterday’s win, India are at the third position in the points table in the SAFF Championship with five points.
