Sri Lanka announced a team of 15 members, these players got a place

T20 World Cup: The Sri Lankan team has been announced for the T20 World Cup to be held in the UAE. Dasun Shanaka has been given the command of the team by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. Sri Lanka will begin their campaign against Namibia in the first round of Group A in Abu Dhabi on 18 October.

The names of Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka were not included in the 15-member squad, who were banned for a year for breaching the Kovid-19 protocol on the tour of England in July. Minod Bhanuka, who was wicketkeeping in Perera’s absence from Kusal Perera’s return from injury, was also not included.

In the first match against South Africa, 21-year-old off-spinner Mahesh Thekshana, who made his T20 International debut, has been included. The youngster took four wickets in his ODI debut earlier this week. Other spinners in the squad include left-armer Praveen Jayavikrema, who made his international debut earlier this year, and Wanindu Hasaranga.

Three players have been kept in reserve

Jayavikrema is the only uncapped member in the squad but has been included on the basis of his stellar performances in other formats. He made a brilliant Test debut against Bangladesh in April, taking 11 wickets in the match. He has played five ODIs so far and has taken five wickets. The pace department will be headed by experienced seamer Nuwan Pradeep and all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne along with Dushmantha Chameera.

Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando, Akila Dhananjay and Pulina Tharanga have been named as four reserves.

Reserve: Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando, Akila Dhananjay, Pulina Tharanga.
