Spiritual leader Dalai Lama honored with Gandhi Mandela Award

Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Saturday conferred the Gandhi Mandela Award on spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. The function was organized by the Gandhi Mandela Foundation (GMF) at Thekchen, Mcleodganj, Dharamshala in Kangra district.

The Gandhi Mandela Foundation has been promoting the values ​​and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela in the interest of global peace and freedom. The award is given to global leaders who inspire citizens for peace, unity and freedom. Speaking on the occasion, the Dalai Lama said that non-violence and compassion are essential for world peace and both these principles are embedded in Indian culture for thousands of years.

He said, “Any problem cannot be resolved through war but through dialogue and peace. He said that for world peace we have to adopt non-violence and compassion. He thanked the Foundation for providing the award.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that the Dalai Lama is perhaps the most deserving person in the world today for this award as he is a universal ambassador of peace and his honor is to carry forward Indian culture and ideas. He said that he was fortunate to have got the opportunity to honor Mr. Dalai Lama.

He said that the Dalai Lama has given two principles, non-violence and compassion, which are needed in today’s times more than the might of the army. He said that in our culture, which has been going on for thousands of years, there is a feeling of goodwill, compassion and love towards others, which the Dalai Lama has done the work of taking forward. Many dignitaries were present on the occasion.
