Single & Double Decker Electric Buses: Soon Double Decker Electric Buses will be seen running on the roads in big cities of the country. Tender has been issued for running Single Decker and Double Decker Electric Buses in major cities of the country.
To promote electric buses for public transport in the country, Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), has launched electric buses in five major cities as part of the ‘Grand Challenge’ on electric buses. Tender has been issued for running.
Bangalore, Delhi, Surat, Hyderabad and Kolkata are in the first phase to be covered under this “Grand Challenge”. The first batch of e-buses are expected to hit the roads in these cities by July. Through this Grand Challenge, CESL aims to deploy 5450 single-decker buses and 130 double-decker buses. A tender worth Rs 5500 crore is being issued for the purchase of electric buses. CESL intends to help the state governments achieve their electric mobility goals as well as build an infrastructure for electric mobility in the country.
Under the initiative of Atamnirbhar Bharat and Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi, fully 100 percent electric buses have been included in this scheme to reduce the operating cost for the cities. It aims to remove barriers to purchase of e-buses by State Transport Undertakings (STUs) and modernize city buses. NITI Aayog has been at the forefront in carrying out this Grand Challenge. Along with making India a net zero nation by 2050, it includes achieving independence in the field of energy by 2047.
