Income Tax Return So far, more than 2 crore income tax returns have been filed for the year 2021-22 on the E-filing portal of Income Tax. The Income Tax Department has given this information by tweeting from its official Twitter handle. Income Tax India has appealed to those who have not yet filed income tax returns that you can file your ITR by visiting the income tax portal incometax.gov.in.

Income Tax India has tweeted that the e-filing portal has received more than 2 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the year 2021-22. We urge you to file your ITR on the e-filing portal.

There have been complaints regarding the portal

There have been many complaints regarding Income Tax’s e-filing portal incometax.gov.in. This portal of income tax was launched on 7 June 2021. In the initial phase, taxpayers had to face a lot of problems on the portal. But Infosys, the company that created the portal, got a reprimand from the government and after the deadline was fixed, there was an improvement on the portal. Gopal Kedia, a former judge of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, also believes that the earlier problems in the new income tax portal have reduced. The portal has been improved. Earlier income tax returns were not being filed but now taxpayers are able to file returns easily as well as refunds are also being received quickly.

31st December is the last date to file IT Returns

Earlier on August 23, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, expressing displeasure over the irregularities in the new portal of Income Tax, had summoned the officials of Infosys to the Finance Ministry and instructed them to remove all the flaws in the new portal by September 15. In view of this problem of taxpayers, the government has announced to increase the last date of income tax return filing from 30 September to 31 December 2021.

The purpose of the new portal is to make user friendly

Infosys had bagged a contract worth Rs 4,200 crore to replace the old e-filing portal and develop the new e-filing portal to reduce the processing of income tax returns from 63 days to one day. The objective of the new portal is to make the portal user friendly and expedite refunds.

Here’s how to check your refund status

To know your tax refund status, first you need to visit the website, https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html. On this website, you have to enter your PAN number and select the year for which the refund is pending. After this, after entering the captcha code, clicking on the option of proceed, your refund status will be known on the screen.
