ICC Womens T20I Player of the Year: India’s opener Smriti Mandhana was on Thursday nominated along with three other cricketers for the ICC (International Cricket Council) Women’s T20 Player of the Year award. Apart from Mandhana, England cricketers Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver and Gabby Lewis of Ireland are other contenders for the award.
Such was the performance of Mandhana
Mandhana scored 255 runs in nine T20 matches in 2021 at an average of 31.87, including two half-centuries. However, no player from India has been nominated for the ICC’s Best ODI Cricketer for the year 2021. Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, South Africa’s Jaaneman Malan and Ireland’s Paul Stirling are in the race for the award.
This year India has won only two out of nine T20 matches. Smriti Mandhana had an important role in these victories. Against South Africa, India could chase 113 runs thanks to his innings of 48 runs in just 28 balls. Mandhana was India’s top scorer in the T20I series against England with 119 runs, but she did not get enough support from the rest of the batsmen. She was India’s top scorer in both the matches, which India lost. This included his 70 runs in 51 balls which he played in the last T20I.
