When the Sun is in Cancer, which is the left eye of Lord Shankar, it liquefies the compassion, mercy, etc., located in the left eye of Lord Shiva, and when it moves from the Cancer sign, the left eye to Leo (right eye). When we walk towards the Sun, the compassion and mercy of Lord Shiva continues to rain on the earth along with the rays of the sun. Along with the Sun, the eyes of Shiva see all the living beings of the earth with their grace and move while sprinkling them with water. That is why worshiping Shiva and fasting done in the holy yoga of Sawan is immensely fruitful. Scientifically, during the period from Cancer Sankranti to Leo Sankranti, there is more evaporation and rainfall. Many plants are nourished by rain. Monday fasting is more prevalent in the month of Shravan. Many people fast on sixteen Mondays. Chandra is the eye of Lord Shiva. Another name for Chandra is Soma. Soma is the king of brahmins and the god of medicines. Therefore, by observing the fast of Monday, all physical, mental and financial troubles are removed and life becomes happy.

According to mythological beliefs, the fast on Monday was first observed by Mother Parvati to get Lord Shiva Shankar as her husband. As a result of this fast, she got Shiva as her husband. Therefore, the girl who observes this fast with full devotion, gets married soon. Of course, this fast which gives fruits is mainly dedicated to family and society. This fast gives the biggest message of living life with love, mutual brotherhood, trust and harmony. All obstacles are removed by observing the fast of Monday in Sawan. This fast is considered better than the fast of sixteen Mondays. Shiva’s fasts, worship and Shiva aarti have special significance in the Mondays of Shravan month. These fasts of Shiva are auspicious and fruitful. Lord Shiva is very pleased with all the devotees who observe these fasts.

The legend of an arrogant prostitute named Sugandha, who has an inexhaustible source of fragrance in the body from Sawan Monday, is also associated. According to this story, in the month of Sawan, after bathing in the river Kshipra, many sages gathered to worship Mahakal Shiva of Ujjain, then even a proud prostitute, who emitted an inexhaustible source of fragrance from the body, started to mislead the sages with her evil thoughts. But on reaching there, due to the influence of the penance force of the sages, the inexhaustible source of fragrance of his body disappeared, and his beauty was also destroyed. His intellect changed, his mind shifted away from objects and started moving on the path of devotion. He asked the sages to atone for their sins, then the sage said – you have defiled many people on the strength of sixteen adornments, to avoid this sin, you should fast on sixteen Mondays and worship Lord Shiva by staying in Kashi. The prostitute did the same and reached Shivlok after atonement for her sins. According to folk belief, the compassion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati remains if they observe Monday fast regularly. Life is filled with wealth. Lord Shiva removes all the evils and removes the sufferings of the devotees.
