Shivkumar Sharma’s funeral: Santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma died on Tuesday, his last rites will be performed with full state honors on May 11. Before that, many stars including Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan reached Shivkumar Sharma’s residence in Juhu for the last glimpse. Music composer Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, who gave Santoor worldwide recognition, died of a heart attack. Sharma was 84 years old. He was one of the renowned classical musicians of India who also composed music for films. The body of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma was kept for the last darshan on Wednesday, 11 May. Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Roop Kumar Rathod, Lalit Pandit and Hariharan reached for the last glimpse.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others paid tribute on Sharma’s death. PM Modi said, “Our cultural world has suffered a loss due to the demise of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma ji. He popularized the santoor globally. His music will continue to inspire generations to come. I remember the conversation I had with him. My condolences to his family and fans. om Shanti.”
The last rites of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma will be performed on Wednesday at Vile Parle Hindu Crematorium near Juhu Airport. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia composed music for Amitabh and Jaya’s film Silsila.
