Shashi Tharoor filed nomination for the post of Congress President

New Delhi. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday filed his nomination papers for the post of Congress President. Mr. Tharoor has been in the fray for the party president’s post since the very beginning. Before taking his nomination papers, Shashi Tharoor had also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and sought her permission to contest for the post of President.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and senior Congress member Mallikarjun Kharge has said that he will contest for the post of party president. Several Congress leaders have given statements in support of Mr. Kharge. Bharat Jodo Yatra president Digvijay Singh left the yatra midway on his arrival in Delhi on Thursday and said that he had come to nominate for the post of president, but a day later Mr. Singh said he would not nominate to support Mr. Kharge. . Youth leader Deepender Singh Hooda also supported Mr. Kharge’s candidature.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has been out of the race following the political developments in Rajasthan, but his opposition group leader Sachin Pilot has been protesting in Delhi demanding that Mr Pilot be made the president. (talk)
