set of opposition

The Bharat Jodo Yatra has received unexpected public support. This has given people feeling hopeless that everything is not over yet.

In its first two months, the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra has become a platform to bring together the opposition of the RSS-BJP ideology. Here the opposition does not mean only the parliamentary opposition. Parliamentary parties decide whether to join or not on the basis of their multiplicity of electoral gains. But for the groups whose concerns are not such calculations, this visit has certainly given a chance to break the impasse and come forward. That is why many such people have joined this yatra, who have had a long rift in their minds about the Congress. It is unusual to hear such people praise Rahul Gandhi and India Jodo Yatra, but it is not surprising. This is because people worried or anxious about the complete political and cultural dominance of the BJP in the era of Narendra Modi, have been finding themselves in a closed street. It is too early to say that a way has been found to go beyond this closed lane. It would be an exaggeration to say that with this yatra the BJP’s dominance has begun to break down.

But this journey has definitely become a way to get out of the anxiety that comes from sitting silently in the midst of increasing shackles on democracy, breaking social harmony and dire economic problems. This is the reason that after passing through five states and now entering the sixth state, this yatra has got unexpected support from the common people. This has given people feeling hopeless that everything is not over yet. Rather, if the ideology of the BJP remains dominant, then there is still ground support for its alternative ideology. Clearly, mobilizing that support and building political capital out of it is a far-reaching and difficult challenge. Trying to understand the importance of the yatra in the sense of immediate electoral gains will only lead to disappointment. But however dire the challenges may be, laying down arms before them is never an option. The beauty of Rahul Gandhi is that he understood this and set out on a difficult journey. So countless people are joining him on the way and this caravan is getting longer.
