Seeing the condition of the tail batsmen, Dale Steyn’s suggestion – there should be a ‘free hit’ in Test cricket too

Free Hit In Test Cricket: Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has suggested the introduction of the free hit rule in Test cricket, saying it will help the tail batsmen avoid long overs in which bowlers bowl no balls.

It is worth noting that in limited overs cricket, if the bowler bowls a no ball by mistake of foot, then the batting team is given a free hit. Steyn suggested on Wednesday that free hits should be introduced in Test cricket as well.

Steyn tweeted, “Free hit for a no ball in Test cricket….what do you think? It definitely got the bowlers (batting) up to those seven-eight balls and sometimes even nine-ball overs.” It will be enough for the tail batsmen to face six deliveries from a top-class dangerous fast bowler,” he added.

Steyn’s reaction came during the final Test between India and South Africa. He also praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who took five wickets for 42 runs. Steyn said, “It will be interesting to discuss this. There is a serious Test match going on here, in which Bumrah bowled well with five wickets.”
