Second gold in weightlifting

Birmingham. India got its second gold medal on the third day of the 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England on Sunday. India also got the second gold medal in weightlifting. At the time of writing the news, India has reached the sixth position in the medal tally after winning five medals with two gold. Weightlifter Lalrinnunga Jeremy won the second gold medal in the 67kg category on Sunday. Jeremy grabbed the gold at the Games with a record weight.

Indian lifter Jeremy lifted a total of 300 kg in the snatch category and 160 kg in the clean and jerk. Second was Iklane Waipawa Newo, who won the silver medal in the history of the Games with a record weight of 292 kg, while Nigeria’s Umoafia Edidiang Joseph won the bronze with a weight of 290 kg. Earlier on Saturday, Mirabai Chanu gave India its first gold medal.

In the boxing match, India’s star boxer Nikhat Zareen has made it to the quarter-finals of the 48-50 kg weight category. Nikhat Zareen of Hyderabad defeated Halina Smile Bago of Mozambique under RSC in the round of 16 match. This means that when a boxer becomes unstable during a fight, the referee stops that fight and declares the other as the winner. In other matches, Indian gymnast Yogeshwar Singh finished 15th in the men’s all round event of artistic gymnastics.
