India’s star tennis player Sania Mirza captured her first title of this season on Sunday. Sania opened her account this season by winning the women’s doubles final at the Ostrava Open. Sania won this title along with her Chinese partner Shuai Zhang. In the tournament, the second-ranked pair of Sania and Zhang registered a straight-sets 6-3, 6-2 win against third seeded American pair of Christian and New Zealand’s Rotliffe in a match that lasted one hour and four minutes.
Sania made it to the finals of a tournament for the second time this season. Prior to this last month, Sania reached the finals of the WTA 250 Cleveland tournament with her partner Chirstina Mchale in the US. Sania and her partner had to face defeat in the final.
Sania won the title after 20 months
34-year-old Sania Mirza has won a WTA title after 20 months. He last won the Hobart International tournament title in January 2020. With the victory at the Ostrava Open on Sunday, Sania’s doubles title figure has reached 43.
Sania and Zhang defeated Japan’s fourth seeded pair of Iri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya 6-2, 7-5 in straight sets in the semi-finals of the Ostrava Open.
