Tech giant Samsung has introduced a skilling program that aims to train 50,000 youth over the next few years and prepare them for jobs in the electronics retail sector. According to a company statement, the South Korean company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to implement the program through its skill training centers across the country.
Ken Kang, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia, said, “With this new program, we aim to address the skill and employability gap among the youth in the country, thereby helping them find jobs in the rapidly growing electronics retail sector.” The program is in line with the Skill India initiative of the Government of India.
200 hours of training will be given in the program
According to the company, the ‘Samsung Dost’ (Digital and Offline Skill Training) program is planned to provide 200 hours of classroom and online training. This will be followed by a monthly stipend along with five months of On-the-Job Training (OJT) at the company’s retail stores.
The training of the participants will be as per the National Skill Qualification Framework and will include a range of soft skills including customer engagement, managing sales counters, handling customer queries, product display and selling skills. Apart from this, they will be introduced to the working of Retail Electronics Retail Store during OJT.
Youth who have completed school education will be able to join
The company said that youth who have completed schooling will be able to participate in the program and will be trained through NSDC’s approved training partners at 120 centers across India. After completing the OJT, the participants will be assessed and certified by the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC).
