face is not fringed

It is difficult for a large section of BJP supporters to understand why suddenly the BJP suspended the two spokespersons from the party for making remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal used to interact with the media as official spokespersons of the Bharatiya Janata Party. That’s why this talk of BJP will not be accepted by anyone, so what he said is the opinion of the fringe (which is not mainstream). Spokesperson is the face of the party or organization. Even the highest leadership of the party will be aware that what Sharma and Jindal have said has become the mainstream of the thinking of the BJP and its Sahamana organizations. In fact, the success of the party is that it has made such things acceptable to a large section of Hindu society. As a result, despite the failures of the BJP governments on all fronts of general governance, its support base has strengthened in the last eight years. It is from this support base that BJP has got that strength, due to which it has changed the nature of Indian polity. However, since this is a direct or indirect consensus of the mainstream party leadership, a large section of this support base on Sunday found it difficult to understand why the BJP suddenly announced ‘respect for all religions’ and the words of Prophet Mohammed. Why were those two spokespersons who made the remarks against them suspended from the party?

It is even more difficult for them to embrace that this was done because of the objections of some ‘small’ Muslim countries. In this sense it felt to many of them at some point paying homage to Mohammad Ali Jinnah by visiting Lal Krishna Advani’s Minar-e-Pakistan. It is difficult for anyone to believe that the Islamic monarchies of the Gulf really care about Muslims around the world or the religion of Islam. He reacted so strongly to the words of Sharma and Jindal, so it is because of the mood of the people there on the situation in India. Ignoring this will not be difficult for them in the future. So the Indian government has to choose whether to reject their displeasure as before, or to take some reform measures. It has taken a feeble but pretentious step of reform. There is no possibility that this will change the appearance.
