RECRUITMENT OF FEMALE CANDIDATES IN CERTAIN BRANCHES OF INDIAN NAVAL UNIVERSITY

New Delhi. The Central Government has told the Delhi High Court that it has now allowed admission of women candidates in some branches of the Indian Naval University.

The High Court was informed that the Indian Navy is now recruiting women candidates under the Indian Navy University Entry Scheme in the General Services Cadre of the Executive Branch, Information Technology and Engineering and Electrical Branch. Advocate Kush Kalra had filed a public interest litigation in the court seeking admission of women candidates in certain branches of the Indian Naval University, which was earlier barred.

After considering the Centre’s representation, a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad disposed of the petition.

Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, representing the Centre, argued during the hearing that the PIL filed on the subject of the service matter was not maintainable.

However, he submitted that the issues raised in the petition have been addressed by already allowing admission of women candidates in certain branches under the Indian Navy University Entry Scheme.
