Rajiv Behl appointed as new DG of ICMR, will replace Balram Bhargava

Dr Rajiv Behl was on Friday appointed as the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Secretary, Department of Health Research, for a period of three years.

An order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Dr. Rajiv Behl as Director General-cum-Secretary, Department of Health Research, ICMR for a period of three years with effect from the date of assumption of charge. Permission has been granted.

Prior to Behl, Dr. Balram Bhargava’s extended tenure as Director General of ICMR and Secretary, Department of Health Research ended in July. Bhargava was appointed to the post on 16 April 2018 for a period of four years. ICMR played its role well during the corona in the year 2020.

M. Srinivas appointed new director of Delhi AIIMS

At the same time, earlier on Friday, M. Srinivas, Dean of ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Hyderabad, has been appointed as the new director of AIIMS Delhi. Dr. Srinivas will succeed Dr. Randeep Guleria who is the Director of AIIMS, Delhi since March 2017. Dr. Srinivas was Professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery (Children’s Surgery) at AIIMS, Delhi before moving to ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Hyderabad in 2016.

The order issued by the department said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivas as the Director of AIIMS, New Delhi. According to the order, ‘This appointment is effective for five years from the date of assuming office or till the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier’. The initial order in this regard was issued on September 9, but the government changed the date on September 23 and issued a new order.

Dr Guleria’s second term ends

The order said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of work of Dr. Randeep Guleria as the Director of AIIMS, New Delhi with effect from March 25, 2022, which will be effective for six months or till the appointment of the next director, whichever is earlier. . The second extension of Dr Guleria’s tenure as the Director of AIIMS ends on 23 September. He was appointed as the Director of AIIMS, Delhi on 28 March 2017 for five years but later his tenure was extended twice for three months each.
