On January 5, PM Narendra Modi visited Punjab and his convoy got stuck on the flyover near Hussainiwala. Returning, PM Modi said to an officer at Bathinda airport, ‘Thanks to your CM that I am passing alive from this airport.’ Punjab Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who was till now the target of Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu, has now come under the BJP’s target as well. According to the report of Tribune India, Punjab BJP leaders met the state Governor Banwari Lal Purohit on Thursday, just a day after the security lapse of PM Modi. BJP leaders demanded the removal of Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay with immediate effect. Talking to reporters outside Raj Bhavan after meeting the governor, BJP state president Ashwini Sharma said, “This is a complete conspiracy and the main conspirator is Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi.”
Attacking CM Channi and Randhawa, Ashwini Sharma said that neither the CM nor the Deputy came to Punjab to receive the PM. This was done because the Congress is not happy with the public support the BJP is getting in Punjab. It is worth mentioning that apart from being the Home Minister, Randhawa is also the Deputy CM of the state. On the other hand, on Thursday, CM Channi was presented in front of Sonia Gandhi through video conferencing, in which she was given a clear advice that no lapse of any kind in the Prime Minister’s security will be tolerated. The trouble for Channi and Randhawa is not only on the government front, but the tussle at the party level has suddenly intensified.
Congress campaign committee chief left abroad after screening committee
Punjab Congress veteran Sunil Jakhar on Thursday left for a foreign trip after opening a front against his own government over the lapse in PM Modi’s security. According to the Indian Express report, Punjab Congress Campaign Committee chief Sunil Jakhar has gone on a foreign tour. On Wednesday, Jakhar participated in the screening committee meeting in Delhi. Although all the meetings are becoming virtual in this era of Corona, but a Congress leader has expressed concern that the absence of the Chief of the Campaign Committee is not a good thing. The Congress leader said that Jakhar’s going abroad in this way is a betrayal of the party.
Sunil Jakhar openly opposed CM Channi
Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday said on the issue of lapse in security of PM Narendra Modi, ‘Whatever has happened today is completely unacceptable. It is against Punjabiyat. There should have been a safe passage for the PM. This is how democracy works in our country. This statement of Jakhar was openly seen as a rebellion against CM Channi.
Manish Tewari also took a dig at Channi
Congress senior Manish Tiwari also targeted his own government on Thursday for the security of PM Modi. Overall, the concerned ministers and officials of the Punjab government, including CM Channi, are on target on this issue. On the other hand, the Congress high command has also given instructions to take action on the responsible people, so it has to be seen on whom and for how long.
