The CM of Assam said, ordinary people do not occupy the temple

After coming to power, the Himanta Biswa Sarma government had issued instructions to remove illegal occupation in Darang district. In the Muslim-majority area, 800 families were evicted who were protesting demanding resettlement.

Regarding the violent clash between civilians and police in Assam’s Darrang district on Thursday, CM Himanta Biswa said that around 10,000 people had gheraoed. Violence was used on security personnel and on them. Two people died in this. After coming to power, the Himanta Biswa Sarma government had issued instructions to remove illegal occupation in Darang district. In the Muslim-majority area, 800 families were evicted who were protesting demanding resettlement.

The violence took place during a visit to the Dholpur Ghorukhuti area in Sipajhar, Darang, during a team of security personnel and district administration officials to clear the encroachers who were protesting the government action. Violence was also used on security personnel and government officials. Speaking about the firing incident that took place during the eviction operation on Thursday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that around 10,000 people gheraoed the security personnel and used violence on them.

CM Himanta informed that as per the land policy 2 acres will be provided to each landless and the representatives agreed with this. The CM said that we did not expect any resistance during the expulsion, Assam Police was gheraoed and violence took place. Then the police forcefully retaliated. Some protesters pelted stones at officers and attacked them with sharp weapons. Police then opened fire in “self-defence”, killing two civilians.

Meanwhile, the video of the incident went viral on social media, in which a photographer named Bijay Shankar Baniya was thrashing a protester, who was shot. Regarding him, the CM said that “You cannot humiliate the state government with a single video. The Assam CM further said that 11 police personnel were injured during the violence and said that an inquiry would be conducted to find out how the photographer reached the spot.

Common people do not encroach on the temple
Talking about that area, CM Himanta Biswa said that the common people in the state do not occupy the temple land. But the area has been known for crime since 1983. He said that I have seen encroachment all around. Due to which the initiative to remove the encroachment was taken. The delegations had met regarding this. A peaceful agreement was also reached, but later instigated.
