Protests continue against Rajapaksa

Colombo, People’s anger is rising in Sri Lanka, which is facing severe economic and political crisis, and protests against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa are intensifying. Meanwhile, there has been a tussle between the government and the new governor of the central bank. The new governor says that the situation can improve if the government does not interfere in his work. Keep in mind that only five thousand crore rupees are left in the treasury of Sri Lanka, which is facing economic crisis, while there is an acute shortage of everyday necessities of the common people.

Anger is rising against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa among people facing shortage of necessities. Demonstrations continue on the streets even in the midst of rain. On Saturday also, the round of demonstrations continued in Sri Lanka. The army and police have closed all roads leading to the residence of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Demonstrators gathered in front of the US Embassy in Colombo said that the US should freeze the assets of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in America.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ali Sabri said that his country needs about 22 thousand crore rupees, which will be able to get out of this situation. Sabri has appealed to the International Monetary Fund, IMF for help. Amidst the growing crisis in the country, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has demanded the resignation of the entire Rajapaksa family, demanding that the post of working president be abolished. Keep in mind that to deal with the economic crisis, the Sri Lankan government has handed over the command of Sri Lanka Central Bank to P Nandalal Veerasinghe.

In the midst of the ongoing crisis in Sri Lanka, the exodus of people has started from there. On Sunday morning, 19 Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka reached Rameswaram, where they were detained by the Indian Coast Guard and Tamil Nadu Marine Police. These people say that it has become difficult to survive due to the deteriorating economic conditions there. Since the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, 29 refugees have reached Indian shores so far.
