Shiv Sena spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut has indicated that party president Uddhav Thackeray may announce the support of the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. In a meeting with Mr. Thackeray on Monday, most of the Shiv Sena MPs have expressed their willingness to support Murmu. However, he also clarified that supporting Murmu does not mean supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He said that Mr. Thackeray understood his intention and he would take a final decision in this regard. Referring to the support of former President Pratibha Tai Patil, she said that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance had fielded her as a candidate for the post of President and that the Shiv Sena, despite being an ally of the National Democratic Alliance at that time, supported Mrs. Patil.
