PM Modi will beautify Tripura and Meghalaya with projects worth Rs 6800 crore

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the poll-bound states of Tripura and Meghalaya on Sunday and will lay foundation stones and lay foundation stones of projects worth over Rs 6,800 crore there. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement that these projects include projects in various sectors including housing, roads, agriculture, telecom, information technology (IT), tourism and hospitality.

The PMO said Modi will also participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of the North-Eastern Council and attend its meeting in Shillong. In Agartala, Modi will launch the Griha Pravesh program for over two lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban and Rural.

The PMO said that the North-East Council (NEC) was formally inaugurated on November 7, 1972 and has played a significant role in the socio-economic development of the region by supporting various infrastructure projects and development initiatives. The PMO said that NEC has helped create valuable capital and social infrastructure in sectors including education, health, sports, water resources, agriculture, tourism and industry, among others.

The PMO said Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several projects worth over Rs 2,450 crore at a public function. In a move to further improve telecom connectivity in the region, the Prime Minister will dedicate 4G towers to the nation, of which over 320 have been completed and around 890 are under construction.

Modi will launch several other development initiatives including four road projects in the three states of Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. In addition, he will inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong at Umsawali. The PMO said the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a ‘spawn laboratory’ and an integrated beekeeping development center at the Mushroom Development Center in Meghalaya.

Apart from this, he will also inaugurate 21 Hindi libraries in Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Assam. Modi will launch projects worth over Rs 4,350 crore in Tripura. The PMO said Modi has focused on ensuring that everyone has a home. Taking an important step in this direction, he will start the Griha Pravesh programme.

Developed at a cost of over Rs 3,400 crore, these houses will be given to over two lakh beneficiaries. With a focus on improving road connectivity, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a project for widening of the Agartala Bypass (Khairpur-Amtali) National Highway-8, which will help ease traffic congestion in Agartala city.

He will also lay the foundation stone of 32 roads with a length of over 230 km under PMGSY III (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) and launch a project to improve 112 roads covering a distance of over 540 km.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the State Institute of Hotel Management at Anandnagar and the Agartala Government Dental College. Assembly elections are due in both the states early next year. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in power in Tripura, it is working to increase its strength in Meghalaya.
