The MHA said in a statement issued on Thursday, ‘The Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted a committee to investigate the serious negligence in security arrangements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur on January 5, 2022.’ On Wednesday, PM Modi’s convoy had to stop at a flyover, about 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, as protesters blocked the road ahead. Describing this incident as a serious threat to the Prime Minister, the MHA on Wednesday called for a report from the Punjab government and said that strict action should be taken against those responsible.

What is the protocol for the Prime Minister’s visit

This committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs will interrogate all the people responsible for the security of PM Modi. This includes officers of both SPG and State Police. The committee will also analyze the communication between the SPG and the local police so that it can be found from where the mistake happened. Elaborate security arrangements are made before any visit of the Prime Minister. The State Police is also involved in this exercise along with the Central Agencies. Advance Security Liaison (ASL) meetings are held before all Prime Minister’s visits. This is part of the protocol, under which the SPG holds a security meeting with all the concerned people three days before the PM’s scheduled program. Apart from the SPG, officers of the Intelligence Bureau of that state are also present in this meeting. Apart from this, state police officers, district magistrates are also a part of the meeting.

Punjab government also constituted a high level committee

According to news agency PTI, on Thursday, the Punjab government also constituted a two-member high-level committee to investigate the lapse in the security of PM Modi. Justice Mahtab Singh Gill (retd) is headed by Anurag Verma, Principal Secretary, Home Affairs and Justice Department. The government spokesperson said that this committee will submit its report within three days.

Congress high command seen in action

On Thursday, the Congress high command was also seen in action. Sonia Gandhi interacted with Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi through video conferencing. Sonia Gandhi told him that the Prime Minister is the Prime Minister of the country, there is no scope for any lapse in his security. Strict action should be taken against those who are responsible in this matter. In a conversation with a channel, CM Channi himself told that Sonia Gandhi has asked him to take action against the responsible people. Channi told that he has set up a committee and appropriate action will be taken. On Thursday, both the Punjab CM and the Deputy CM were stopped by BJP workers. During this, CM Channi got out of his car and talked to the people and said – there is no threat to the life of the PM. Many Congress leaders have also raised questions on their own government regarding the lapse in PM’s security. In such a situation, there is also a stir within the Congress. On the other hand, BSP supremo Mayawati also said that politics should not be done on the security of the Prime Minister.
