These days, strange movements are being seen in different cities of the country. First, some WhatsApp groups in the city spread rumors about running out of petrol and then queues of cars and scooters and motorcycles form at the city’s petrol pumps late at night. People start filling the tank without any need.

Recently such incident came to light from Ahmedabad. Here on Saturday night, suddenly a rumor started spreading on social media that petrol pumps were going on strike. Along with this, rumors spread in some places that Saudi Arabia has stopped supplying crude to India. What was it then, on seeing it, there was a long queue of people to get petrol filled at many petrol pumps of the city. After similar rumors surfaced from some other cities of the country, now Indian Oil itself has come to the fore.

IOCL Director (Marketing) has clarified the situation by tweeting on Tuesday that there is no shortage of petrol in the country. He has also tagged Hardeep Singh Puri and IOCL chairman in the tweet.

The director of Indian Oil has written in his tweet-

Dear Customers, We ensure you that the availability of the product is completely normal across all our retail stores. We have enough products. We request you not to worry. IndianOil is always there to serve you.

Where did the stampede happen?

Rumors of running out of petrol started spreading from last weekend. It started from Ahmedabad, after that there were queues of rumors. Following rumors spread on WhatsApp and social media, queues were suddenly seen at petrol pumps in Dehradun and Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. In many places, suddenly the demand increased so much that even the petrol pump had to be closed.

India has enough reserves

If we look at the current situation, India has enough oil reserves for its emergency needs. As an emergency reserve, 38 million barrels of crude oil are kept at three places on the eastern and western coasts of the country. 13.3 lakh tonnes of crude oil is stored in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 1.5 million tonnes in Mangaluru in Karnataka and 2.5 million tonnes in Padur. The country’s energy needs are met out of these reserves when the supply of crude oil is affected due to war or any other reason. Apart from emergency, these reserves are also used to control oil prices.
