It will be inducted into the Indian Air Force fleet at a ceremony in Jodhpur in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary, officials said on Sunday. He said that the successful test of the two-engine helicopter weighing 5.8 tonnes has been completed. In fact, in March last, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the purchase of 15 indigenously developed Limited Series Production (LSP) LCHs at a cost of Rs 3,887 crore. Then the Defense Ministry had said that 10 helicopters would be for the Indian Air Force and five for the Indian Army.

Officials say that the LCH is a light and dark attack helicopter. Its specialty is that it is also effective in destroying the enemy’s air defense while defending itself during the war. The LCH can also be deployed at high altitudes like Ladakh, as it specializes in destroying bunkers built on mountains. Apart from this, it can be used for anti-terrorist operations in residential areas as well as in forests. Officials said it will be a powerful platform to meet the operational requirements of the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army.

Officials said several key aviation technologies like glass cockpit and composite airframe structure have been indigenized at LCH. He said that its new editions will come in the coming time. Also, it will be equipped with more modern and indigenous technologies over time. IAF has already accepted four LCH helicopters. Officials said the IAF has plans to buy more LCHs in the near future. Officials said that this helicopter has also been tested in high altitude areas like sea, desert, and Siachen.
