PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia said- New IPL teams can be sold for three to four thousand crores

IPL New Franchise: Ness Wadia, co-owner of IPL team Punjab Kings, believes that the two new teams that are going to join it can be bought at a price much higher than their base price. According to Wadia, the base price of Rs 2,000 crore for these two new teams has been kept cautiously, which should increase by 50 to 100 percent during the bidding. Let us tell you that the announcement of two new IPL franchises will be done on October 25, after which it will become a 10-team tournament next year.

According to Wadia, “Based on my experience and knowledge of IPL, then the base price of Rs 2,000 crore is a cautious figure and I will not be surprised if it increases by at least 50 to 100 percent. I expect at least more than three thousand crore rupees. At the same time, he said that, “With the addition of two new teams, the cost of existing IPL franchises will also increase.”

With the arrival of new teams, the price of all the franchises will increase.

To a question whether the addition of new teams has any concerns for the existing teams, Wadia told PTI, “No, it is not a matter of concern for the existing teams. It is good that two new teams are being included. I also believe that IPL is the top tournament and there are limited number of teams in it, the addition of two new franchises will add value to all the franchises. Having 10 teams will expand the IPL.”

IPL will be stronger with the arrival of new teams

He said, “IPL is the crown jewel of BCCI and hence this gem should be priced right. It is a fixed asset whose value will not only increase every year but will also generate annual revenue on a continuous basis.” “You are getting money, 250 to 300 crores every year and apart from the increase in the value of the property, this money is coming directly into your pocket,” he said.

The new teams would like to add many star players of India to themselves. With regard to players’ retention and right-to-match cards, Wadia hoped that the BCCI would keep things fair for all the participants. The IPL is also expanding its footprint overseas, especially in the Caribbean Premier League where the three teams – St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados – are owned by IPL team owners. The St Lucia franchise is owned by Punjab Kings and Wadia would not be surprised if more IPL teams follow the same path.
