12 districts of 2 states of Northeast India declared ‘disturbed’, Center extends AFSPA for 6 months
The Union Home Ministry has extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 (AFSPA) for another 6 months. This decision has been taken after the security review of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

During this, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs enacted the Armed Forces Special Power Act 1958 (AFSPA) has been extended for another 6 months. This decision was taken by Arunachal Pradesh and NagalandTaken after security review of . The Ministry of Home Affairs has extended it to Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Along with this, AFSPA has been extended in Namsai and Mahadevpur in Namsai district.
In a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the places falling within the areas of Namsai and Mahadevapur police stations along with Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh have been declared as ‘disturbed areas’. This has been done under section 3 of the Armed Forces Special Power Act 1958. Because of this, the AFSPA has been extended here for the next 6 months.
Apart from this, 16 police stations in 9 districts and 4 districts of Nagaland have also been declared as ‘disturbed areas’ during this period. In these places also, the Armed Forces Special Power Act 1958 has been extended for the next 6 months.
Arrest can be made without warrant
The Center on Friday said that the period of disturbed area under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been extended by another six months in parts of 12 districts of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh and five other districts of the two states. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 empowers security forces to conduct operations and arrest anyone without any prior warrant.
AFSPA extended in these places
According to a notification issued by the Union Home Ministry, the AFSPA period will be extended from October 1 in nine districts — Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Zunheboto — and four other districts of Nagaland, Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng and Nagaland. Will be extended for six months in 16 police stations of Wokha.
In a separate notification, the ministry said the period of disturbed area under the AFSPA has been extended by another six months from Saturday in Tirap, Changlang, Longding districts and areas under the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevapur police stations in Arunachal Pradesh. There are total 16 districts in Nagaland, 26 districts in Arunachal Pradesh.
