Omicron booster campaign launched in Belgium

Brussels. Belgium has launched a massive vaccination campaign to combat the new variant of the coronavirus, omicron. This vaccination is mainly for those people who have taken the Kovid-19 vaccine. Launched on Monday, the campaign is primarily aimed at people aged 65 and above and healthcare professionals in hospitals and nursing homes.
This first phase of the new Omicron booster campaign will be carried out in Wallonia, Flanders and the Brussels-Capital region from September 12 to October 1, Xinhua news agency reported. According to the Scientific Institute of Public Health, an average of 1,489 new Kovid-19 infections were recorded between August 29 and September 4, which is 2 percent less than the previous week. As autumn approaches, some experts are anticipating a new wave and reiterating their call for caution. As of 5 September, 25,800,728 doses of the Kovid-19 vaccine had been given in Belgium. (IANS)
