Oman started the tournament with a win, beat PNG by 10 wickets
ICC T20 World Cup 2021: Oman (OMAN) defeated Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 10 wickets in the first group stage match of Round 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Batting first, PNG scored 129 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Asad Wala scored 56 runs for PNG. In reply, Oman easily chased down the target in just 13.4 overs without losing any wicket. Aaqib Ilyas, who opened the innings for Oman, scored an unbeaten 50 and Jatinder Singh scored an unbeaten 73. Both shared a record partnership of 131 runs. However, Zeeshan Masood, who took 4 wickets, was adjudged the man of the match.
PNG’s opening pair got out without opening the account. Vala and Charles Amini shared an 81-run partnership for the third wicket. After this, PNG scored only 129 runs losing wickets from there. Captain Zeeshan Masood took 4 wickets for 20 runs for Oman. Apart from this, Zeeshan Khan and Kalimullah got 2-2 wickets.
Record partnership between Ilyas and Jatinder
Aaqib Ilyas and Jatinder Singh shared a record partnership of 131 runs for Oman. This is the second highest partnership for Oman in T20. Earlier, Aaqib and Jatinder had shared a 126-run partnership against Canada.
Jatinder and Aaqib hit half-centuries for Oman
Jatinder hit a brilliant half-century (73*) for Oman with the help of seven fours and four sixes. He scored his fourth T International fifty and became the first Omani batsman to score more than 750 runs in the format. He also recorded his highest T20 International score. Apart from crossing 450 runs, Aaqib also registered his third T20 International fifty.
