IPL 2022 Auction: In the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), i.e. IPL 2022, the old eight teams will be allowed to retain four players. This means that the old eight teams will be able to retain four players. At the same time, the rest of the players will have to send them to the auction pool. However, the two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, will be able to pick up three players from the rest of the player pool before the auction. This has been said in a report. The official date for the IPL 2022 auction is yet to be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but according to reports, the auction will be held in December.

According to cricket website ESPNcricinfo, the IPL officials clarified these rules in an informal conversation with all the franchises this week. At the same time, no team will get the facility of RTM (Right to Match) in this year’s auction. For the first time this rule has been removed.

The purse for the IPL 2022 auction is likely to be Rs 90 crore (approximately USD 12 million). It was Rs 85 crore in the 2021 auction. At the same time, in the 2018 mega auction, the teams had Rs 80 crore, out of which they could spend a maximum of Rs 33 crore on retained players. Teams were allowed to buy back up to five players through a combination of retention and two right-to-match (RTM) cards. But now this rule has been abolished.

The report further states that there will be no RTM card next year. Franchisees will be able to implement two different combinations while choosing the four players they want to retain. There could be three Indians and one foreigner, or two Indians and two foreign players.
