Strong 7.0 magnitude earthquake rocks Solomon Islands, tsunami warning

Wellington (New Zealand). Strong tremors of a 7.0 magnitude earthquake were felt near the Solomon Islands on Tuesday morning. The earthquake caused a tsunami warning to be issued. However, at present there is no news of loss of life or property. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was about 56 km south-west of the capital Honiara at a depth of 13 km.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake could cause dangerous ocean waves in the Solomon Islands, but did not forecast a widespread tsunami threat. Solomon Islands is considered a very sensitive area in terms of earthquakes.
