  • Chinese smartphone sales decline in China for the first time in history
  • Nearly half of Chinese customers are buying Apple’s iPhones
  • iphone13 captures 46 percent market share

Not only India, but the markets around the world are full of Chinese products. Whereas in the case of smartphones, now the only option in the world is the mobiles of companies like Xiaomi, Huawei, Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus. When Chinese phones dominate the world, they are bound to capture the Chinese market. But for the first time in history, Chinese smartphone sales in China have declined, with nearly half of Chinese customers buying Apple’s iPhones.

iPhone No. 1 Made in China

According to a report by global industry analysis firm Counterpoint Research, the US tech giant has outperformed Chinese brands, especially Huawei. The company’s iPhone 13 has captured a 46 percent market share in the mobile market of more than $ 400 (approximately Rs 31,000). At the same time, the Chinese firm Vivo has reached the second place for the first time.

iPhone’s dominance in the ultra-high-end segment

When it comes to the phones in the ultra-high-end segment, which includes smartphones priced at USD 1,000 (Rs 79,847) or more, the dominance of the iPhone is clearly visible here. iPhone sales in this segment grew 147 percent year-on-year. At the same time, South Korean company Samsung has also achieved a growth of 133 percent in the same segment.

Huawei in trouble

Huawei, which once dominated the Chinese market, is having a rough day. Huawei is struggling in the market after Google banned the use of Android on Huawei in 2019. After the withdrawal of China’s largest mobile company Huawei from the market, domestic companies are trying to fill its place in the Chinese market. Ren Zhengfei, co-founder of Huawei Technologies, recently said that his firm is facing an existential crisis as the world economy is headed for a protracted recession.

Huawei came at number three

The Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported on Thursday that Huawei dropped to third place with 11 per cent market share, up from 19 per cent a year ago. Huawei, which was earlier China’s largest smartphone vendor, has lost its game in the market after it was blacklisted by the US.

Premium smartphone market down 10% in China

Premium smartphone sales in China declined 10 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2022. China’s handset market overall declined by 14 per cent in 2022. This decline clearly shows that the Chinese economy is facing the worst hit of recession in the last decade.
