Government made it clear, free ration will not be available after this date

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna: Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), free ration will be available only till November 30. There is currently no plan of the government to extend the term of this scheme beyond November 30. According to the Union Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey, in view of the improvement in the economy and good sale of food grains in the open market under the OMSS policy, the distribution of free ration through PMGKAY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna) will be started from November. There is no proposal to proceed.

Last year in March 2020, PMGKAY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana) was started to provide free food grains in view of the crisis caused by the first wave of corona epidemic. Initially this scheme was launched for the period of April-June 2020, but later it was extended till November 30, 2020 this year. But this year after the second wave of Corona came, again the plan was brought for the month of May-June. But later the government extended the scheme for five months and from July to November, 2021 so that people could get free food grains.

But now the government argues that the economy is recovering and the sale of food grains under the Free Market Sales Scheme (OMSS) has also been very good this year. Therefore there is no proposal to extend PMGKAY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna). The government is giving rice and wheat to bulk consumers under the OMSS policy to improve availability and curb prices in the domestic market.

Under PMGKAY, the government supplies 5 kg of free ration to 80 crore ration card holders under the National Food Security Act. They are given free ration in addition to subsidized food grains from ration shops.
