Mukhtar Ansari jailed for two years

Lucknow. The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court sentenced former Mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari to two years’ imprisonment, holding him guilty of threatening to kill the jailer.

In 2003, the then jailer of Lucknow, SK Awasthi, filed a case against Ansari at the Alambagh police station, alleging that he had been threatened with death if he was ordered to search the people who had come to meet Mukhtar Ansari in jail. . Awasthi had also alleged that Ansari had even pointed a pistol at him while abusing him. Ansari was acquitted by the trial court in this case, against whom the government had filed an appeal.
