Monkeypox declared a global health emergency

But after spreading to more than 80 countries, the WHO had to decide.

Monkeypox has spread to 80 countries of the world including India. More than 15 thousand cases have been found worldwide and more than 70 people have died. In India too, three cases of monkeypox have been found and all three cases are in Kerala, after which the central government has asked all the states to be on alert. Surveillance has been increased at all airports and seaports to prevent its spread. Keep in mind that this disease is also spreading by touching the patient.

The World Health Organization convened a second meeting on Saturday within a week to consider the pandemic. It considered whether monkeypox should be declared a global crisis. After long deliberations, the WHO decided to declare it a global health emergency. Along with this, WHO has asked countries and citizens around the world to take extra precautions.

African officials attending the meeting said they were already treating the continent’s pandemic as an emergency. But some experts said that since there are minor types of monkeypox in Europe, North America and some other countries, it is unnecessary to declare a state of emergency. Despite the virus being under control, they were refusing to declare it a health emergency. Keep in mind that the United States, Britain, Canada and other countries have purchased a large number of monkeypox vaccines, while Africa has not received a single vaccine, where monkeypox has already killed more than 70 people.
